Are You Worried That You May Not Pass the National Counselor’s Exam? Do You Want To Pass the Exam the First Time So You Can Get Licensed As Soon As Possible?

Passing the exam is one of the most challenging steps toward getting licensed as a counselor. Whether you are a recent graduate or have been working in the field for some time, preparing for the exam IS a big investment of time and money. You do not want to waste either.

Sorting through what to study can be daunting and time consuming and you still may end up not passing because you studied the wrong material.

Personalized tutoring in a private or group setting can make the difference between studying efficiently for the least amount of time and passing the exam or wasting a lot of valuable time and emotional energy struggling to study then failing and paying yet another examination fee.

With personalized tutoring….

– You will know exactly what material to study

– You will be able to organize the material in to chunks that you can master

– You will get your questions answered about difficult topics such as those found in appraisal and statistics

– You will maintain the momentum to study

Without tutoring, good luck. You will have a hard time studying and not have the confidence going into the exam that you can pass it on the first try.

A Systematic Approach

The Tutoring for the LPC Exam course is designed to provide a systematic approach to organizing and understanding the essential material of the exam and to help you sustain your study efforts so that you go into the exam with confidence.

You can choose to review all or any of the eight sections of the exam:

1. Human Growth and Development

2. Social and Cultural Foundations

3. Helping Relationships

4. Group Work

5. Career and Lifestyle Development

6. Appraisal

7. Research and Program Evaluation

8. Professional Orientation and Ethics

This is what you can expect to receive:

1. Recommendations about study guides

2. Downloadable information for each section that includes:

– A list of essential keywords and important concepts organized for you in ways that are readily accessible

– Flow charts and diagrams to illustrate relationships between theories and theorists

3. Test-taking tips on how to approach multiple choice questions

4. Suggestions on how to memorize large quantities of information

5. Encouragement from me to stay on track with studying

6. Access to review the lesson any time because all classes will be recorded.

7. Tips on how you can take care of yourself during the 4-hour exam

Private or Small Self-Selected Groups

You have two options for the tutoring: privately or in small groups up to 8 students. If you wish to be tutored with others, ask your friends or colleagues to join you. Students who tutor in a group can benefit from hearing the quirky tricks others will use to remember the information. They also tend to feel more accountable to the studying process.

The tutoring sessions are held in my office in Westminster, Colorado or by Skpye or by phone.

If there is more than one student in the group and the tutoring will be done by phone, the calls are conducted through a telephone bridge line which is accessible throughout the USA. You pay the toll charges if you do not have a free long distance calling service. (If you are in the U.S. and use a prepaid calling card, each one-hour class will cost you approximately $1.80 in toll charges.)

Detailed Class Description

You may choose to review all eight sections or just certain ones. Each section can usually be covered in 2 hours. The exception is Section 3, Helping Relations, which I teach in two parts. If you need or more or less time for any section, I am very flexible. We will negotiate a tutoring time that works for both of us.

The following is an outline of what is covered in each section. We can review the sections in any order that works for you. You may prefer to cover the more difficult material at the beginning or the end. If you study it first you will have more time to review the information. If you prefer to leave the challenging section until closer to the exam date it may be fresher in your mind at the time of the exam.

Week 1: Human Growth and Development:

Includes: developmental theories, abnormal psychology, DSM IV
